Our trip to Macon was a long day, and we arrived at almost sunset for set up. We were very grateful that this little campground was probably one of the nicest we had stayed in throughout out journey. We had an awesome site, the resort was sparsely occupied, and it was so very quiet, almost like a ghost town. Not one person was visible outside except for us. We were exhausted and knew we had a long day to get home the next day, but nonetheless sat outside until almost 11 pm commiserating, and just taking in the beautiful night sky in very mellow weather. It was a great night.
Twin Oaks Campground is one to stay in if you’re on the road … awesome new private restrooms and very nice amenities even though we were only there for a short stay.
Next morning we were on our way home, and it was pretty uneventful along I-75 South. We stayed pretty quiet as we reflected on the largeness of this journey, and the fact that it was almost over.
Hard to believe the 3 months went so fast, and thankfully, without incident. No tire issues, no breakdowns, we made it over the majesty of this nation’s highest mountains, and we survived it all!
We weren’t sure exactly how to feel, but it was pretty melancholic …. but in the spirit of Dr. Seuss, “Sad it’s over, but glad it happened.”
Now the work begins to get unloaded, cleaned up, settled back into our home, reconnecting with our neighbors Dave and Keith and great friends Larry and Linda Felder, who so thoughtfully cared for our home in our absence. They all afforded us the peace of mind during this journey! We will never be able to thank them enough!
I think exhaustion had set in, and we have no pictures of this part of the journey except for our Welcome to Florida sign!
